Visitors to Belfast City Cemetery will be able to explore over 150 years of history :  Victorian burials and monuments to Belfast’s famous citizens from the Golden Era of it’s industrial past, memorials of the Fallen in both World Wars, Suffragette and feminist icons and the social and cultural history of Belfast. Listed Victorian monuments such as the Gallagher Steps and Cross of Sacrifice can be seen. A new Visitors’ Centre with permanent heritage exhibition on the Cemetery has been built and opened to the public. Our Open Day on Sunday 15th September Belfast City Council will deliver a programme of activities and tours. PRONI will be giving information on family history research. Carved Stone and wrought iron were the original raw materials used to build many of the memorial structures in the Cemetery in the 19th Century. Visitors will be able to see these traditional craft skills in action. The Rock Stone Masonry Workshop will allow visitors to cut their own lettering in stone. Guided tours will be available. Booking is required for the Rock Stonemasonry lettering session and guided tours.     

The Rock Stone Masonry Workshops – 4 people : 
Visitors must pre-book a V cut lettering workshop.
Each work shop has a maximum capacity of 4 visitors who each have one hour to complete their stonework lettering.

Topfloor Art Studio – Childrens’ Art and Craft Activity  In this fun workshop you will learn the techniques needed to create your own butterfly paper artwork using recycled maps, flyers and magazines. Use collage techniques, learn to make paper beads and present your masterpiece as a unique and beautiful card. The workshop is suitable for all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.     

PRONI and Plot Box – City Cemetery Visitor’s Centre  Information and demonstrations will be given to visitors on family history research using new online research stations in the Visitors Centre.
