The
walk begins at St Patrick’s Church, Clogher (Liam McCormick, 1979) with car
parking available. We pass the former Diocesan Schoolhouse (1780), the Great
War memorial (1922) and the 1830 terrace of Georgian houses.
The walk proceeds to Clogher Courthouse (1806), the old Market House, Ulster Bank, Fatima Hall, Steen’s Yard with its cut-stone buildings, the former Bishop’s palace (1819)- now St Macartan’s Nursing Home. We then see St Macartan’s Cathedral (1744) and its two Celtic crosses and ancient cemetery where no fewer than 28 grave slabs date from the 1600s.
The tour will be led by Jack Johnston, the Clogher historian and a former chair of the Ulster Local History Trust. Total distance 1.4 miles
